Managing Licenses

Certain advanced features on your BMC platform, such as KVM, virtual media, or SMTP alerts, may require a valid license to be enabled. The license management page allows you to view the status of all installed feature licenses, see their validity, and add new license keys when needed.

This chapter guides you through the process of viewing and adding feature licenses.

Viewing and adding feature licenses

The license management page provides a clear table listing all features controlled by a license and their current status.

  1. In the sidebar menu, navigate to Settings > Manage Licenses.

  2. The page displays a table with the following fields:

    • Feature: The name of the licensed feature (e.g., KVM, MEDIA, SMTP).

    • Validity (days): The number of days remaining on the license.

    • Services Up Count Days: The total number of days the service has been enabled.

  3. To add a new license key, click the Add License Key button.

  4. In the popup window, you can either paste the License Key string directly or click Add file to upload a license key file (typically a .key file).

  5. Click Save to install the license.

Setting license expiration alerts

To avoid an interruption of service due to an expired license, you can set an alert counter to be notified before a license expires.

  1. On the Manage Licenses page, click the User Alert Count button.

  2. In the User Alert Count Days field, enter the number of days before expiration that you wish to be notified.

  3. Click Save.

Pro Tip: Track licenses proactively

For production servers, it's a good habit to track license expiration dates in your calendar or monitoring system. While the BMC can provide an alert, having an external reminder ensures you have plenty of time to procure and update licenses before a critical feature is disabled.
